Enter the magical world of the Goblin Ball, where the lines between reality and fantasy blur. Inspired by the iconic movie The Labyrinth, this event promises an evening filled with wonder and delight. Dress in your most fantastical attire and prepare to be transported to a realm where goblins, faeries, and mythical creatures come to life. Masks are encouraged to add to the mystique of the evening.

The evening will feature:

Live Performances: Enjoy a captivating performance by our very own Goblin King.

Costume Contest: Show off your creativity and compete for one of 4 grand titles. Whether you come as a goblin, faerie, or your own unique creation, all are welcome.

Dancing: Dance the night away to a mix of classic and contemporary tunes, with a special set inspired by the movie’s soundtrack.

Join us for a night where dreams and reality intertwine, it’s an experience that will leave you spellbound.

Territorial battles between the have-it-made rich kids — the Socs — and Ponyboy’s tough, underprivileged “greaser” family and friends are just a part of life. But even in the midst of urban gang warfare, somehow Ponyboy can’t forget a short poem that speaks to their fragile young lives. This heroic story of belonging, friendship, and maintaining hope in the face of struggle is a powerful reminder of what young people encounter every day.

Join us for an evening preview event for the first chance to view and shop more than 300 glass pumpkins created by artists Devan Cole and Forrest Buford with Hot Glass Academy, and ceramic artist Kate O’Toole.

Enjoy a live glass blowing demonstration from Hot Glass Academy in the museum’s outdoor space, and indulge in specialty spooky cocktails and decadent hors d’oeuvres in an after-hours museum party for an exclusive first look at a selection of glass pumpkins to purchase. Curate your own collection of glass pumpkins to feature in your home or business each autumn, or to enjoy year-round, while supporting the Wiregrass Museum of Art and artists in the region with each purchase. The installation will be open at WMA for two days only, on Friday evening and Saturday during The Pumpkin Patch, A Family Art Festival held in the museum’s garden from 10am-2pm.

Event ticket holders will be entered into a raffle to win a medium-sized glass pumpkin created on site by Hot Glass Academy at the event, with the option to buy additional raffle tickets.

The Pumpkin Patch: A Family Art Festival

10:00 am to 2:00 pm

WMA presents The Pumpkin Patch, a free family art festival on Saturday, October 26th from 10-2 pm at the museum in the Civic Center parking lot in downtown Dothan. Enjoy WMA’s giant pumpkin patch, with hands-on artmaking stations throughout. At this event, everyone can create and take home up to five handmade works of art. And, each family can go home with their own painted pumpkin!

Galleries will be open for all visitors, with a special art scavenger hunt to bring families together to enjoy and talk about art together. Hot Glass Academy will be demonstrating live glass blowing outside at the festival, and will have an installation of glass pumpkins indoors, with the opportunity to purchase and collect your own work of glass art. The festival will also host local demonstrating artists.

Costumes are encouraged for all ages, so bring the whole crew out dressed with imagination and creativity, and capture family memories with photos in the pumpkin patch, or with a drawing from our Portrait Station!

Free popcorn, lemonade, and candy will be available to all, and food trucks will be on site for additional paid offerings.

The Parade 2024 – National Peanut Festival

Yup, we are having the Parade early this year. New Downtown route map! The 2024 National Peanut Festival Parade will be held on Saturday, October 26th at 3:30 PM.

This year, we’re excited to honor the 80th celebration with a return to the traditional route down Foster Street, a nostalgic change from the recent east-west corridor of Main Street.

This year’s parade also comes with a few important updates:
New Date and Time: Moving the parade to the afternoon allows our 400+ dedicated volunteers to enjoy the festivities with their families. In the past, having the parade on the last Saturday morning meant many couldn’t attend due to commitments at the fairgrounds.
Consideration for High School Bands: Area high school bands often have late football games on Friday nights, making it difficult for students who return home after midnight to be parade-ready by 6:30 AM. The new timing eases this challenge for our talented young musicians.
Enhanced Security and Safety: The revised route creates a smaller, more manageable footprint, allowing us to prioritize safety and keep the north-side corridor of downtown Dothan, including Oates Street, open throughout the day.
We know that change can be tough, but we’re confident these adjustments will enhance the parade experience for everyone. We look forward to seeing you on October 26th for a celebration to remember!

Southeast Health Foundation is leading a community-wide initiative to develop a HeartSafe Program for the region. Starting at home, the Southeast Health Foundation is partnering with the City of Dothan, the Dothan Fire Department and Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce to form an advisory committee to establish a HeartSafe program in Houston County. The goal of this partnership is the reduction of deaths from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) occurring in the community.

The program focuses on four lifesaving elements, which improve survival for cardiac arrest victims:

Early Identification – Promoting awareness of the signs and symptoms of sudden cardiac arrest, to encourage bystanders to call 9-1-1 immediately.
Early CPR – Increasing the number of individuals trained in Hands-only CPR, which increases the chance of effective defibrillation.
Early Defibrillation – Increasing access to and awareness of automated external defibrillators (AED) throughout the community, which is a critical link for survival.
EMS Intervention – Basic and advanced care provided by EMS is critical. Steps 1-3 by the public aid EMS and provide the best chance for a cardiac arrest victim’s survival.

Through the initiative, workplaces, campuses and communities in Houston County will be encouraged to become recognized as HeartSafe. To be eligible, an organization must complete an application and meet certain criteria, which includes ensuring an adequate number of individuals are trained in hands-only CPR and that automated external defibrillators (AEDs) available within a certain distance.

As a major contributor and program supporter of the HeartSafe initiative, the Dothan Fire Department will host the first in a series of hands-only CPR training classes on Saturday, April 30th at the new Wiregrass Public Safety Center. Charity Cork Pull

The 3rd annual wine pull benefiting Catholic Social Services will be held Saturday November 9th at the Thirsty Pig, 257 S. Saint Andrews in downtown Dothan. There will be a wine pull, a cooler raffle and silent auction at the event! Tickets are available or a $25 donation to CSS, and you can purchase a ticket for the hour that works best for you!

Wine pull tickets are available for 4:00, 5:00, 6:00 and 7:00 on November 9th, and at each hour 20 bottles of various priced wines will be pulled by ticket holders. Raffle tickets are also available for a $10 donation and a Grizzley cooler valued at $350 will be given away and winner need not be present to win the cooler. Silent auction items can be bid on throughout the day and the highest bidder at the conclusion of the event will be notified.

Southeast Health Foundation is leading a community-wide initiative to develop a HeartSafe Program for the region. Starting at home, the Southeast Health Foundation is partnering with the City of Dothan, the Dothan Fire Department and Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce to form an advisory committee to establish a HeartSafe program in Houston County. The goal of this partnership is the reduction of deaths from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) occurring in the community.

The program focuses on four lifesaving elements, which improve survival for cardiac arrest victims:

Early Identification – Promoting awareness of the signs and symptoms of sudden cardiac arrest, to encourage bystanders to call 9-1-1 immediately.
Early CPR – Increasing the number of individuals trained in Hands-only CPR, which increases the chance of effective defibrillation.
Early Defibrillation – Increasing access to and awareness of automated external defibrillators (AED) throughout the community, which is a critical link for survival.
EMS Intervention – Basic and advanced care provided by EMS is critical. Steps 1-3 by the public aid EMS and provide the best chance for a cardiac arrest victim’s survival.

Through the initiative, workplaces, campuses and communities in Houston County will be encouraged to become recognized as HeartSafe. To be eligible, an organization must complete an application and meet certain criteria, which includes ensuring an adequate number of individuals are trained in hands-only CPR and that automated external defibrillators (AEDs) available within a certain distance.

As a major contributor and program supporter of the HeartSafe initiative, the Dothan Fire Department will host the first in a series of hands-only CPR training classes on Saturday, April 30th at the new Wiregrass Public Safety Center. About Sudden Cardiac Arrest:

SCA is the leading cause of death in the United States, claiming more than 300,000 lives annually. Approximately 95 percent of SCA victims die before they reach a hospital or receive medical attention.

SCA generally occurs without warning. Once the SCA victim collapses, he or she has about five minutes to receive an AED shock to reset the heart’s rhythm. Without the AED shock the chance of surviving decreases by 10 percent every minute that life saving measures are not initiated (early, identification and activation, early CPR and early defibrillation).

What’s an Art Crawl? On the first Friday of every month, local small businesses, galleries, and studios open their doors for artist pop-ups, new exhibit openings, hands-on art activities, and live art demos.

Whether you’re an art lover or just looking for a fun way to spend the evening, there’s something for everyone. Wander around, discover new artists, and experience the creativity that makes Dothan special.

Toddler Hour On Toddler Thursdays!

Toddler Hour offers an engaging experience each month, on the fourth Thursday, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.

Guests from as young as 14 months are invited to participate in a children’s book reading and explorable activities in one of our museum galleries. This experience allows families to explore WMA’s galleries before they open to the public—reducing crowds, noise, and overstimulation.

After the reading, guests can explore the museum at their own pace. We will have Scavenger Hunts and discussion questions available for families to enjoy together.

SEACT Student Company’s Godspell JR. Competition Cut & Student Showcase

7:00 pm to 10:00 pm

A group of disciples help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and a hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, are employed as the story of Jesus’ life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus’ messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life.

Our competition team will take this 20-minute cut of Godspell JR. to the National Performing Arts Festival in Orlando, FL. Come see our most advanced students in this vocally and choreographically impressive ensemble piece and enjoy individual student performances from a range of musical theatre favorites.

Catered dinner service will precede the performance for those who pre-purchase a dinner package (performance tickets included). Please email billyh@seact.com if you or your organization would like to sponsor a table to help fund student scholarships. Dinner service begins at 6:00 PM

Johnny Rawls –
Johnny Rawls is a soul blues legend with too many accolades to mention here. With a career spanning more than 50 years, he’s done it all. He’s an internationally recognized recording artist, music producer, and songwriter who tours extensively nationally and internationally.

The Blues Music Awards, Blues Blast Awards, Living Blues Awards, and the W. C. Handy Awards have all acknowledged Johnny with 26 Nominations and 9 Blues Awards, including Soul Blues Album of the Year and Soul Blues Artist of the Year. Living Blues Magazine described him as a “soul-blues renaissance man” when he was featured on the cover in 2002. Johnny is honored to be mentioned on two markers along the Mississippi Blues Trail – one in Hattiesburg, MS marking the Hi-Hat Club, and another in Rocklin ME marking the migration of blues from Mississippi to Maine.

Jimmy Wooten –
Hailing from Shreveport, Louisiana, Jimmy Wooten is a seasoned musician who has toured the past fifteen years with bands internationally, but, with the recent release of his fourteen-track debut album, Collision Course, he is solidifying himself as a true songsmith. With a sound rooted in rock, country, blues, and soul, his music takes you on an auditory journey that you won’t soon forget.

Skyler Saufley –
As a self-taught multi-instrumentalist, Skyler Saufley is not your typical blues artist, and his journey to become one is uniquely his own.

Specializing in jump, swing, and west coast style blues, coupled with his impeccable stage presence and knack for showmanship, Saufley’s talent becomes impossible to ignore, evoking the spirit of blues legends T-Bone Walker and Pee Wee Crayton.

Kendall Jackson –
Kendall Jackson is a dynamic saxophonist known for the intensity and passion he brings to every performance. His powerful, soulful sound has captivated audiences across North Florida, Georgia, and Alabama, earning him a reputation as a rising star in the regional music scene. Kendall’s remarkable talent and energy leave a lasting impression, making him one of the most talked-about saxophonists in the area.
