DIRECTED BY CHRIS MANASCO AND KENDALL SIRKIS
Inspired by a true story and featuring the Tony®-nominated score by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, Broadway’s BRIGHT STAR tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and ’40s. When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past—and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives. With beautiful melodies and powerfully moving characters, the story unfolds as a rich tapestry of deep emotion. An uplifting theatrical journey that holds you tightly in its grasp, BRIGHT STAR is as refreshingly genuine as it is daringly hopeful.

The Thirsty Pig will be open later tonight for this amazing event! We have 2 nationally touring bands based out of NYC taking the PigPen stage and giving you a couple hours of amazing music that has never been seen or heard before in the Wiregrass. The show is free and all ages are welcome (though there may be language in some songs that isn’t appropriate for small children).
The opening act, Boris and the Joy, is probably the first Russian Born act on the Thirsty Pig stage, and will go on stage at 7PM. Boris & the Joy’s flexible indie-folk-electro-pop stylings shimmer with psychedelic undertones, soul-baring lyrics and intimate incantations of love and hope. With an acoustic, electric guitar and equal parts tender and surreal vocals, this project reflects the beauty and pain experienced in the journey of profound transformation.
Boris, the Ukrainian/Russian singer, composer and guitar player has toured the world as the guitarist of gypsy-punk band Gogol Bordello for a decade and fronting his own unit Hey Guy. His life’s journey and the philosophy of joy are the fibers of the emotionally colorful Boris & the Joy
The Paris Monster will take the stage around 8:00. Paris Monster is a duo out of Brooklyn, New York. They combine soulful vocals with sparse, linear drumming; fuzzed out bass with grinding synth; all atop a “eurorack” modular synth backdrop. If you’re wondering how a duo can cover vocals, drums, synth, bass, and extra synths, that’s because Josh Dion covers vocals, drums, and synth all at once, while Geoff Kraly handles the bass and sequencing the eurorack. If you only heard their music, you would have no idea of the musical economy at play, but to see it in action is as humbling as it is thrilling.
Initially, it would be tempting to focus only on Josh Dion, and the remarkable feat that he is accomplishing by absolutely jamming on the drums, synths, and vocals (complete with diva-esque hand gestures — the guy is into it), but to ignore Geoff Kraly would be criminal. His bass lines are catchy, memorable, and grooving. He spends as much time on the upper octave of his bass as he does in the lower, filling double duty, covering the sonic landscape that would normally be covered by guitar, before descending back into the bass register. On top of that, he is responsible for sequencing the modular synths that provide an extra layer of depth and texture to the soundscape. Finally, he serves as the band’s lyricist, and the lyrical content is excellent.
Listening to and observing this duo is a masterclass in musical economy. Between the two of them, they are covering a lot of ground, but there is nothing “busy” about it. Every piece, every layer, is the product of intentional thought.
This show is free to the public due to the support and generosity of The Thirsty Pig, Live at the Opera and Reset Mercantile.

According to musician, singer and songwriter JJ Grey, “The best songs I’ve ever written, I never wrote. They wrote themselves. The best show I ever played, played itself and had little to do with me or talent. To me, those things come from the power of an honest moment, and I guess I’m trying to live in that power and not force life to cough up what I want.”
Since his first album, Blackwater, back in 2001, Grey has been releasing deeply moving, masterfully written, funkified rock and front porch Southern soul music. Now, with his new album, Olustee – his tenth and first in nine years, and the first he has self-produced – Grey is back, singing his personal stories with universal themes of redemption, rebirth, hard luck, and inner peace. With his music, Grey also celebrates good times with lifelong friends, oftentimes mixing the carnal with the cerebral in the very same song. Fueled by his vividly detailed, timeless originals spun from his own life and experiences in the Northern Florida swampland, Grey’s gritty baritone drips with honest passion and testifies with a preacher’s foot-pounding fervor.
With Olustee, JJ Grey has once again pushed the boundaries of his own creative musical, lyrical and vocal talents, delivering an album that is destined to become a stone-cold classic. Many of the songs are all steeped in the mythical Southern stories of his ancestral Florida home and filled with people from JJ’s life. The songs overflow with the sights and sounds of the region as told through the eyes of a poet and sung with pure, unvarnished soul. The album’s ten songs range from the introspective opener The Sea to the raucous, celebratory first radio single, Wonderland, to an escape from an out-of-control wildfire in the title track, to the inward-looking closer, Deeper Than Belief. Singing of his own personal triumphs and struggles, his hopes and desires, his friends and family, Grey’s message is simple and strong: respect the natural world and always try to live in the moment. And never forget the importance of having a good time.
Grey made his recording debut in 2001 with Blackwater, following up in 2004 with Lochloosa. Both albums were released on the Fog City label under the name Mofro, a moniker the young Grey chose to describe his music and sound while still working his day job at a lumberyard. He has since used the word to name his band of world-class players. In 2007, Grey signed with Alligator Records and released a string of five popular and successful albums: Country Ghetto, 2008’s Orange Blossoms, 2010’s Georgia Warhorse, 2011’s live CD/DVD Brighter Days and 2013’s This River. Ol’ Glory was released on the Provogue label in 2015. Throughout this amazing run of releases, press, radio and years of touring helped catapult JJ Grey & Mofro further into the mainstream.
JJ Grey & Mofro have played countless festivals, including Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Wakarusa, Austin City Limits Festival, Byron Bay Blues Festival (Australia), Montreal Jazz Festival and Fuji Rock (Japan). Over the course of his career, Grey has shared stages with the likes of Lenny Kravitz, B.B. King, The Allman Brothers Band, The Black Crowes, Los Lobos, Jeff Beck, Ben Harper, Booker T. Jones, Mavis Staples, and many others. Grey and his band continue to play over 75 shows a year across the U.S. and around the world.
JJ’s songs have appeared in films and on television, including on House Of Cards, Criminal Minds, Bones, House, Flashpoint, Crash, Friday Night Lights, The Glades, The Deadliest Catch and in films including The Hoot and The Gray Man. In November 2009, JJ wrote his first film score for the critically-acclaimed, Emmy Award-winning documentary The Good Soldier, which appeared in theatres and on Bill Moyers Journal on PBS.
Grey, an avid outdoorsman, is a dedicated fisherman, a skilled visual artist (he has designed and drawn the cover art on all of his albums), an avid surfer and he holds an honorary position on the board of the Angler Action Foundation, dedicated to the protection of coastal fish and fish habitat. He has written passionately and articulately about his love for the untrammeled environment of his North Florida home and continues to advocate for its preservation.
From his early days playing cover music behind chicken wire at a west side Jacksonville juke joint, to playing sold-out shows at some of the largest venues and music festivals in the world, JJ Grey has always delivered his soul-honest truths. Now, with Olustee, JJ Grey & Mofro will bring their music directly to fans as they hit the road for a massive months-long tour across the country and throughout the world. AllMusic says JJ Grey’s music is “as authentic as the ground under your feet because that’s where it comes from — just before it moves, simply and directly, through the body of the listener, into the human heart.”

Prepare for a hauntingly beautiful night at the historic Dothan Opera House on Friday, October 24, as the Tri-State Community Orchestra brings the magic of silent cinema to life with a special live-to-film performance of The Phantom of the Opera (1925).
This unforgettable evening will feature a full orchestral score performed live alongside a screening of the legendary silent horror film, directed by Rupert Julian and starring the incomparable Lon Chaney. Known for its eerie atmosphere and Chaney’s unforgettable portrayal of the Phantom, The Phantom of the Opera remains a cornerstone of classic cinema.
The Tri-State Community Orchestra, based in Dothan, Alabama, is an all-volunteer ensemble comprised of talented musicians from across Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. With a mission to enrich the cultural fabric of the Wiregrass region, the orchestra offers inspiring performances that celebrate both musical artistry and community spirit.
Presented in partnership with the Dothan Performing Arts Department and the Dothan Opera House, this event offers a rare opportunity to experience silent film the way audiences did a century ago, accompanied by the dramatic power of a live symphony orchestra.

National Peanut Festival Parade will take place on Saturday, October 25, 2025, beginning at 3:00 PM.
This year, the parade will return to its traditional route down Main Street in Dothan, renewing the familiar path that has been a staple of the community celebration for decades. Last year’s special 80th Anniversary route was a memorable tribute, but in 2025, we look forward to welcoming back the traditions that so many families and festival-goers know and love.
The National Peanut Festival Parade is one of the largest and most beloved events in the Wiregrass area, featuring marching bands, colorful floats, local organizations, and special guests who come together to celebrate the peanut industry and the vibrant spirit of our community.
We invite everyone to join us in downtown Dothan on October 25th for an afternoon of fun, pride, and pageantry as we kick off the 2025 National Peanut Festival.

Join us and celebrate the season at the 29th Annual “Christmas with John Berry’ show. It’s an evening of his biggest hits and following a brief intermission the songs of Christmas John is so famous for. It’s an evening for the whole family to enjoy, one you won’t forget!
“After twenty-nine years, I never could have imagined the incredible blessing of sharing my music while celebrating the birth of Christ,” says Berry. “Robin and I are so grateful to see so many of you return year after year with your loved ones, coming together to embrace the joy of the season. This time of giving means so much to us, and I’m forever thankful for your continued support.”
Check out the pre-show VIP Experience which takes place 1 hour before the doors open for the general public. It’s a separately ticketed event and is the perfect addition to what will already be a fabulous night!
